An Engagement Shoot with A Surprise!!

So funny, y’all… I am proud to admit: I’m not entirely new but I’m pretty new around here in this professional photography world. When I got a wedding lead from Ki, I grabbed a cup of coffee, dialed the number on my phone, and sat at my computer ready to take notes. I was ready to ask about their engagement story, how they met, and all their fun wedding planning stuff! When a man answered, I was kind of shocked. And suddenly all my plans came to a halt! (Men don’t like to talk about that stuff!)

I quickly learned… Ki is absolutely smitten with Sara, and he had big plans for their wedding and their engagement shoot. We had a lot to talk about! A few weeks after we starting planning, I got a text from Ki asking if I could help him plan a surprise for Sara during our engagement shoot. I. Was. Stoked to help! (More on that later)

I really had a lot of fun, and am super thankful they trusted me with their engagement photos. (Sara and Ki are Rocheal Photography’s second engagement shoot couple!)

Silhouette Double Exposure

We decided to meet at The Salt Factory in Roswell, then set up a silhouette somewhere on the strip afterwards. I love learning new tricks with my camera, especially when it involves colors, twinkle lights, and off camera flash. Sara and Ki were game to let me play, which was AWESOME. This cool shot above was created entirely on my camera (no photoshop).

Since we all arrived early, and this shot didn’t take long at all to create, we wound up having a ton of extra time. We walked around the strip for a bit, then stopped for some coffee at Mac MacGee Irish Pub & Eatery before heading to Old Roswell Mill.

Our plan for Old Roswell Mill was to first stop by the brick building and then play on the bridge some before finally heading to the waterfall. It’s been so rainy and cold and windy and kind of awful lately outside, so I was a little nervous we’d make the hike to the waterfall and not be able to descend. (It’s quite the trek, and Sara was in heels and a skirt!) But so far we were having a blast, and these two are adorable.

Little did I know, Sara is a rockstar. She’s athletic, open to adventure, and was totally willing to not only hike through huge rocks and mud, but make the descend to the waterfall. And Ki was so helpful. (I love this, y’all.)

I think she felt like it was worth it. Standing in front of that huge fall is never a disappointment. And the photos rock my world.

After Old Roswell Mill, we hopped into the car and headed to Garrard Landing… Sara had no idea what was up Ki’s sleeve, and I know he was sooooo anxious to surprise her! (Twice I completely saw him thinking about doing it down at Roswell Mill… I was so worried he’d do it and I’d miss it!)

Ki jumped out of his car and ran over to tell me he couldn’t wait any longer to surprise Sara… Here he is whispering his secret.

We were all so excited!!!!!! What a rock! She was ready to show it off, and boy does it look amazing on her hand! Congratulations Sara, and Ki!

The rest of our day was seamless… Well, except when Sara fell off the wall.. 🙂

Once the sun settled into the trees, it literally could not be prettier. (Maybe if it were warmer…)
